WHAT A MAN SHOULD KNOW

A man must hold certain things evident in his short lifespan.
One of those things must be the way he treats the children he produces.
A man in love with being a dad
Should never be a freaking cad...
And his derision should never become his son's!

On a cool December day like today,
Still another African-American man's life ends in tragedy!
He murdered his spouse,
Then turned the gun upon himself, that louse,
And left a child parentless, without a mother or a father!

In the NFL, the show must go on!
The Kansas City Chief's will play on... and on and on and on.
The world never stops turning,
And the candles never stop burning...
And the funerals continue to close chapters of derision and pain!

You see that beautiful little boy in the picture?
He is now a twenty year old young man as of today.
My fear for his life,
Sometimes cuts me like a knife...
Even thought his world is as harmless as Pokemon and college life!

If I could freeze time in a picture...
You are looking at it right now!
The wonderful days of loving my child,
Protecting him from the crazy and the wild...
Never wanting the day to come when he must strike out on his own!

Well another black teen is shot dead in Florida this week!
And another set of fears grabs hold of my psyche!
But I have my fantastic memories... I'll make them last,
And plenty of pictures of my son's fantastic past...
And a son who tells me he loves me every day.

A man must hold certain things evident in his short lifespan.
One of those things must be the way he treats the children he produces.
A man in love with being a dad
Should never be a freaking cad...
And his derision should never become his son's!
